What Is a Lead?

A lead is a record of a potential customer’s inquiry or expression of interest in parking. Leads help your team track inquiries and understand which ones become paying customers.

A lead can come from a form, a website, an integration, or manual entry.

What a Lead Contains

Every lead belongs to an organization and must have an email address. It can also include:

  • The person’s name, phone number, and company.

  • The source of the inquiry and source details.

  • Notes, form responses, and other information about their request.

  • A location, if the inquiry relates to a particular parking location.

A location is optional.

A Lead Represents an Inquiry

A lead record represents an inquiry, so one person can have more than one lead.

For example, someone who submits an inquiry for Location A and another for Location B can have two separate lead records. Both records count as leads, even if they use the same email address.

Leads are not automatically combined just because they share an email address. Separate inquiries made at different times can also create separate leads.

A lead is distinct from a contact. The lead records the inquiry; the contact holds information about the person. When a lead converts, it can be linked to a contact or customer record.

How Leads Are Created

Creation methodWhat creates the lead
Form or page submissionA submission configured to create a lead that includes an email address.
Website or integrationA website or connected system submits a lead with a valid email address.
Manual entryAn authorized user adds a lead using New Lead on the Leads dashboard.

Form Submissions and Leads

A form submission and a lead are separate records. A submission stores the information someone submitted through a form. It may also be linked to the lead it created.

In Dash Forms, Create a lead on submission controls whether submissions create leads. When enabled, a submission that includes an email address creates a lead. The form must use an Email field type; a text field labelled “Email” does not meet this requirement.

When the setting is disabled, the submission is still stored, but it does not create a lead. This is useful for forms such as feedback or check-in forms where a response is not a sales inquiry.

For configuration details, see Setting Up a Form.

How Leads Over Time Is Counted

The Leads Over Time card counts lead records that match your dashboard filters and selected date range, using the date each lead record was created.

Each matching lead record counts once. The total is not a count of unique people or of every form submission.

For example, if one person submits inquiries at three locations and each submission creates a separate lead, those inquiries contribute 3 leads when all three records fall within the selected view.

A form submission that does not create a lead does not increase this total.

For an overview of the charts and filters, see the Leads dashboard guide. To understand when a lead becomes a conversion, see How Lead Conversions Are Calculated.
